Former Sheriff Robert Roberts Arrested Monday By HCSO
BREAKING: Howard County Texas- Law Med has discovered that the Howard County Sheriff’s Office arrested one Robert Lee Roberts JR, age 56, on Monday in Howard County on an outstanding bench warrant issued in Winkler County.
The only Robert Lee Roberts JR Law Med can find having ties to Winkler County Texas is the convicted felon and former county sheriff. In June, Roberts was convicted of a number of felonies for his role in the illegal arrest and prosecution of 2 local nurses who notified the state medical board about the shoddy medical practices of the sheriffs friend, Dr. Rolando Arafiles.
Roberts was sentenced to 100 days in jail and would have been released earlier this month. He was also sentenced to 4 years of felony probation, a violation of which would generate a bench warrant for his arrest. What the warrant was for however is unknown at this time.
The trail of his associate in crime, Winkler County Attorney Scott Tidwell began in Howard County on Monday, a coincidence to the arrest which cannot be ignored. Likely Roberts showed up at the trial and was arrested by deputies on alert for his presence due to the outstanding warrant, whatever it was for.
More on this as we investigate further.
UPDATE: A reader informs us that a bench warrant would be the proper avenue by which Roberts would be summoned to court as a witness in the Tidwell trial if he was still incarcerated under his 100 day sentence. This indeed may be the explanation for a HCSO report which states he was ‘arrested’ on a bench warrant on the day the Tidwell trial began.
